Introducing the next generation of textile care products

High-performance textile care can also be a climate-conscious choice. Kiilto’s portfolio of textile care products achieves washing power through new enzyme technologies and innovative ways of utilizing raw materials that promote circular economy, such as lignin derived from wood industry side streams.

Achieving hygienic and fresh laundry requires the right products, precise dosing, and effective methods. At Kiilto, we aim to go further by offering textile washing solutions that not only deliver excellent results but also reflect Our Promise to the Environment and are designed for ease of use. Discover our powerful laundry care solutions, ranging from wash powders and liquids to softeners and boosters.

Innovative and certified textile washing solutions

  • Effective stain removal using advanced enzyme technology and a wood-based biopolymer, lignin.*
  • Efficiency provided with highly concentrated formulas.
  • Smart packaging choices — sustainability has been the main driver when selecting packaging materials.
  • Multiple certified options with the Nordic Swan Label and the Allergy Label granted by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation.

*More detailed product information can be found on the product pages of each product.

Driven by enzymes, backed by science, and designed for the future

Kiilto Pro textile care products* contain a wide variety of enzymes. Depending on the enzyme, they break down different types of soil, including proteins, starches, and fruits. The broad range of enzymes in the textile washing products  effectively breaks various types of soil into smaller particles, enhancing the detergent’s ability to remove stains.

The latest enzyme technology makes Kiilto Pro detergents, such as Kiilto Pro Textile Wash, an optimal choice for washing kitchen workwear.

Lignin — from forests to factories

Textile washing detergents need polymers to bind and suspend soil that has already been released from textiles during the wash. Lignin is a natural biopolymer that is used in Kiilto Pro powder detergents to perform this function. In addition, lignin contributes to stain removal by acting as a dispersant that helps loosen and eliminate persistent stains, which helps in maintaining the brightness and cleanliness of textiles.

Lignin is a natural polymer found throughout wood, often a by-product of the paper manufacturing process. Kiilto’s RDI team has developed innovative ways to reuse this valuable, renewable resource in textile washing detergents.

“Lignin is abundantly available as an industrial side stream, so not a single tree is cut down to obtain this raw material. This is exactly what the circular economy is about – making use of existing resources that would otherwise go to waste.”

Tomi Peltonen
RDI Manager

Functioning as a natural binder, lignin is found in the cell walls of trees, providing structural strength and enabling trees to stand tall. Lignin used in our textile wash detergents is sourced from wild, certified sustainable forests in the Nordic region.

A significant share of lignin has traditionally been burned for energy, resulting in the loss of a valuable resource. Expanding its applications can help reduce reliance on fossil materials and support the transition to a circular economy.

“We at Kiilto are one of the first to introduce the use of lignin into textile washing detergents,” says Tomi Peltonen, RDI Manager who has been working on Kiilto Pro textile care products for years.

Enhancing wash results with lignin

  • Prevents soil from resettling on textiles during the wash cycle, contributing to the long-lasting cleanliness and brightness of textiles
  • Enhances anti-greying properties of washing powders
  • Acts as a water softener by binding water hardness ions
  • A natural, plant-based polymer with smaller environmental impact than synthetic, petroleum-based alternatives
  • A former waste stream from the paper and pulp industry, now repurposed as a valuable ingredient in textile care

Packaging designed with purpose

In developing the Kiilto Pro textile wash product portfolio, Kiilto’s RDI team placed strong emphasis on packaging choices. The packaging of the detergents needed to be safe, user-friendly, ergonomic to handle, and resistant to moisture — while also minimising the environmental impact as much as possible.

Nothing in Kiilto Pro products is incidental: every aspect of the product, from raw materials to packaging, is carefully considered during product development.

Sometimes plastic is the better option

Kiilto Pro powder detergents, in 4 kg, 6,5 kg, and 8 kg unit sizes, are packaged in convenient plastic pails. The pails are made from post-consumer recycled plastic (100 % PCR) and are also 100 % recyclable after use. Before recycling, the pails can be refilled with detergent or washed and used as a storage container.

“It may come as a surprise to many that this is the option better in terms of environmental impact. The plastic packaging has a carbon footprint approximately 5 % lower than its predecessor, a cardboard container” says Peltonen.

The plastic pails also offer a reduced carbon footprint in transport. Compared to the previously used cardboard containers, plastic pails allow for approximately 30% more products to be transported per pallet when delivering to customers. Furthermore, when empty, even greater quantities can be stacked on a pallet, further enhancing transport efficiency and reducing overall carbon emissions.

Beyond environmental benefits, the plastic pails offer enhanced user convenience. A durable handle improves ergonomics and safety, while the pail’s high resistance to moisture — common in laundry premises — ensures durability. Additionally, the wide opening facilitates easy dispensing and refilling.

The larger unit size of powder detergents, 20 kg, are packaged in paper bag. When detergent consumption is high, switching to the 20 kg paper bag as a refill of the 8 kg plastic pails can save up to approximately 75 % of package material usage for each kilogram of the product.

Circular packaging choises

Liquid detergents are packaged in convenient, easy-to-pour-from canisters. Both sizes, 5 litres and 20 litres, are made from 35 % recycled HDPE. This percentage ensures safety, while using less virgin material. For some of the detergents, the recycled plastic originates from our own closed-loop pilot, meaning the material previously served as Kiilto Pro canisters as well.

Certified for responsibility, user-safety, and performance

Many of the Kiilto Pro textile washing detergents have been granted the Nordic Swan Ecolabel years ago, and we have recently renewed our licenses. In addition, we’ve expanded the number of products in the range carrying the label, further strengthening our commitment to sustainability.

Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products meet strict environmental requirements based on a life-cycle approach. This considers factors such as the origin of raw-materials, energy consumption during production and use, as well as the waste generation throughout the entire production and consumption chain. It also means the detergents fulfil strict demands for biodegradability.

In addition to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, many of the recently improved formulas also have been granted an allergy label by the Finnish Allergy, Skin, and Asthma Federation. The allergy label indicates that the products do not contain fragrances or commonly sensitizing or irritating substances.

With these labels, you can be confident that the textile care products perform effectively while considering the environment, the product users, and those who use the textiles after washing.
