Materials
Kiilto Keramix A+X is a two-component waterproofing membrane for use in interior and exterior areas prior to tiling. Suitable for both roller and brush application. In exterior use, reinforce inlets and joints with butyl tape. Suitable also for sealing air leakages.
Not suitable for applications that are constantly under water (e.g. pools) or exposed to temperatures above 70 °C (e.g., sauna steam room walls). Of all Kiilto waterproofing membranes, 2-component Kiilto Keramix A+X has the highest water vapour permeability value. This makes it the most breathable choice for underground structures. However, it should be ensured that no capillary moisture travels from the substrate underneath Keramix A+X waterproofing membrane.

Concrete, masonry, cement-based levelling compound and building boards designed for wet areas.
Floors and walls plastered or levelled with Kiilto products can be waterproofed after the required drying time stated in the technical information of that specific levelling compound or plaster.

Mix together Keramix liquid component A and the powder component X in a mass ratio of 1:1. Shake the liquid canister, pour it into the mixing container and then sprinkle the powder component into the liquid while mixing. Continue mixing until a smooth and lump-free mix is achieved. Mix Keramix in such amounts that you can use in approx. 45 minutes.
When spreading the first layer, you can level out (max. 3 mm) the porous substrate by using paste consistency of Keramix and a trowel. The second layer is applied normally.
If the waterproofing membrane has started to harden, do not dilute with water.
Walls:
If needed, sand and/or smooth uneven substrates with Kiilto wall plaster suitable for use under waterproofing and tiling. Prime dry wall surface prior to waterproofing with Kiilto Keraprimer or PrimerOne primer as per instructions. The primer must be dry before starting the waterproofing work. Apply Kiilto Keramix waterproofing membrane on the wall in vertical corners, construction board joints and other junctions, and reinforce these areas with Kiilto Nurkkavahvikenauha or Kiilto KeraSafe saumanauha sealing tape. Press the tape onto fresh waterproofing membrane and ensure that it is thoroughly wetted. In corners you can use also Kiilto Butyltape, which is pressed onto the primed surface before applying the waterproofing membrane, or alternatively pressed onto the wet waterproofing membrane. Reinforce pipe inlets with pre-fabricated reinforcements, or cut off a suitable piece of the reinforcement fabric and cut a hole in the middle of the fabric with approx. 10 mm smaller diameter than the pipe's outer diameter. Instead of reinforcement pieces, you can also use Keramix A+X mix in a 3.5:5 ratio (3.5 parts liquid A and 5 parts powder X). In using reinforcement pieces, press the inlet reinforcement piece to fresh Keramix and ensure that it is thoroughly wetted. Apply Keramix on the entire area to be waterproofed with a roller and allow to dry for approx. 1 h (colour change). Drying time depends on layer thickness and prevailing conditions. Apply a second coat of Keramix and allow to dry for a minimum of 1.5 h (colour change). Check that the membrane layer is consistent. Seal any thin/porous spots with Kiilto Keramix and allow to dry thoroughly. The finished waterproofing membrane layer must be 0.8 mm at the minimum.
Floors:
If needed, sand and/or smooth uneven substrates with Kiilto floor levelling compound. Prime dry floor surface prior to waterproofing with Kiilto Keraprimer or PrimerOne primer as per instructions. The primer must be dry before starting the waterproofing work.
Apply Keramix in horizontal corners and around pipe inlets, and press Kiilto Nurkkavahvikenauha tape or Kiilto KeraSafe saumanauha sealing tape to fresh Keramix and ensure that it is thoroughly wetted. For inside and outside corners you can also use pre-fabricated corner pieces. You can also reinforce corners with Kiilto Butyylinauha tape which is pressed onto the primed substrate or fresh waterproofing membrane. For sealing pipe inlets, you can also use Keramix A+X mix in a 4.25:5 ratio (4.25 parts liquid and 5 parts powder). Reinforce floor drain with self-adherent Kiilto Kaivolaippa. Press Kaivolaippa carefully onto the primed substrate and cut out a round hole in the middle of the fabric, approx. 40 mm smaller than the drain's diameter. Finish carefully with a compatible clamp ring. Apply Keramix waterproofing membrane over the Kaivolaippa up to the clamp ring. Apply Keramix on the entire floor area to be waterproofed and allow to dry for approx. 1 h (colour change). Apply a second coat of Keramix on the wall and over the floor area, and allow to dry for at least 1.5 h prior to tiling (colour change). Drying time depends on layer thickness and prevailing conditions. The waterproofing membrane layer must be 0.8 mm at the minimum. Check that the membrane layer is consistent. Seal any thin/porous spots with Kiilto Keramix and allow to dry thoroughly.
Exterior use:
You can use Kiilto Keramix waterproofing membrane in exterior areas and areas exposed to sub-zero temperatures on concrete or other strong cement-based substrate prior to tiling. Butylrubber corner, inlet and joint reinforcements must be used with Keramix in all inlets and joints in areas that will be exposed to sub-zero temperatures.
The surface must be carefully cleaned from dust and other materials that might impair adhesion,. The surface is then primed by brushing water on it. Primer is NOT used in outdoor applications. Waterproofing is done in the same way as in interior areas. Always remember to read the Kiilto Keramix procedure guide for exterior applications before starting the work.
