Substrate must be dry, free from dust and grease. For filling the bottom of the joint, you can use closed-cell plastic.
Unscrew the cap from the extrusion tip, then cut open the cone. Screw the tip in place and cut to an appropriate size. Extrude sealant into the joint, then smooth immediately using a trowel or fingertip moistened with water. Once finished, leave the extrusion tip in place and close the cartridge properly. To facilitate cleaning, apply, for example, masking tape onto both sides of the joint. Remember to remove the tape right after application.
Always remove the old silicone from joints before applying new, and remove possible mould spots by using, for example, Kiilto Kodin Klorite according to instructions.
The prevailing conditions such as ambient temperature, the silicone's and joint's temperature, material, air humidity, as well as the amount of silicone applied, have a strong impact on the skin time and vulcanization.
Some paints, detergents and solvents contain chemicals that may discolour the silicon, if in direct contact or if evaporated in the air. Also some woods (including heat-treated radiata pine) and acetoxy silicones (so called acetic silicones) evaporate similar compounds. Some plastics and rubbers contain plasticizers that may also react with the silicone. If in doubt, we recommend preliminary tests before use. If using ceramic tile paints, use acetic Kiilto Pro Silicone.
Siliconejoint’s lifespan is limited. It depends on the room’s utilization rate, cleaning and ventilation. Check the condition of joints in wet rooms regularly and replace with new, at least every 5 years.
Kiilto Silicone adheres well on different materials (e.g. ceramic tiles, glass, furniture materials). However, preliminary adhesion tests are recommended to ensure proper adhesion. For transparent plastics (PC, PMMA) we recommend clear silicone
Make sure all your silicone cartridges have the same batch number for colour consistency in the joints.
The colours of Kiilto Silicone are toned in neutral light. Since light in different light sources may vary, the colour of the silicone may vary slightly depending on lightning of the room.
