Application

Pumpable levelling screed for concrete bases prior to final grading or floor covering in interior areas. Recommended thicknesses 5–50 mm. Suitable applications are homes, offices and other public premises. Compatible with common flooring types on the market, such as stone and ceramic tiles, vinyl, linoleum, cork and textile floorings. Suitable also with engineered wood flooring, if glued down onto the subfloor with SMP-based adhesives, e.g., Kiilto FlexSilan. We recommend gluing other wooden floors (mosaic and block parquets) directly down onto a rigid concrete or plywood substrate. Kiilto Plan Rapid is suitable also with underfloor heating.
The substrate must be clean, solid and firm. Remove any cement skin, old flaking screed, adhesive remains, paint stains and other impurities by sanding, milling or shot blasting. Vacuum the surface carefully. Subfloors are pre-treated with diluted Kiilto Start Primer (1 part primer/4 parts water) prior to application of the floor screed. Very porous substrates are primed twice. The primer is brushed onto the substrate 0.5–24 hours prior to the levelling work being carried out. (Avoid primer ponds.) Mark out the section to be levelled and prevent screed from getting into inlets with a sealing edge/sealant. Possible leaks are sealed with, e.g., mineral wool prior to pumping.

A low alkaline screed layer protects the adhesive and vinyl coating from the damage caused by alkaline moisture in the concrete. The studies have shown that a 5 mm thick screed layer provides the protective effect.

Instructions for use

Mix the powder with water using an appropriate automatic mixer until a smooth, fluid mass is formed. Use cool, clean water (+10 °C–20 °C). However, if the powder is cold, it can be mixed with warm water (max. +35 °C). Temperature of the pumpable screed and the substrate must be min. +10 °C to ensure proper hardening. Avoid temperatures above +25 °C. Higher temperatures will shorten the working time and the product's spreading properties will suffer. Ready screed is pumped onto the surface with a rubber hose in wide sections. The width of the section depends on pumping speed, thickness of layer, working conditions, etc. Sections over 10 metres wide are not recommended. Section joints can be smoothed with, e.g., a steel trowel. After pumping, clean the machines with clean water immediately. Visible section joints and possible air blisters can be removed by sanding after 1–2 days of levelling. Make as many movement joints on the levelling compound layer as there are in the substrate. The need for additional movement joints must be considered case by case.

The drying of the screed must not be accelerated by heat or ventilation, since too quick a drying may cause hair cracks. If the temperature in the levelled room is higher than normal, the relative humidity very low, or if the levelled floor surface is exposed to direct sunlight, we recommend covering the floor with a tarpaulin or treating it with Kiilto 704 BSP Jälkihoitoaine agent as soon as it is dry enough to allow walking.

The floor should be covered with a flooring relatively soon after it has hardened and dried. This will prevent the surface from over drying and cracking. If the floor is not going to be covered with a flooring within 14 days of levelling, the levelled floor must be treated with Kiilto 704 BSP Jälkinhoito agent on the day following the levelling having been carried out, at the latest.

In optimal drying conditions (20 ºC, 50% RH), the floor covering can be installed after 1–5 days depending on the thickness of the screed. The screed will soon acquire good surface strength and will chemically absorb the amount of water defined in the instructions. Substrate's high moisture content and poor drying conditions will lengthen the drying time. Follow the floor covering manufacturer's requirements as well as the national requirements on substrate moisture content. Consider the entire floor construction when assessing the floor's suitability for covering.

Suitable also for floors that are going to be painted in secondary rooms with light traffic, but not, for example, in garages or for bathroom floors. In areas where waterproofing is used, e.g., bathroom floors, floor levelling should be applied under the waterproofing membrane. Not suitable for areas permanently under water (e.g., swimming pools). Note! Avoid excessive use of water!
