Kiilto Epoxy Tile grout is a 2-component epoxy resin based tile grout for ceramic tiles and glass mosaic. It has good cleanability, strength and wear- and chemical resistance. Because of that, it is well suited for e.g. use in the food industry, catering kitchens or spas, where joints require greater durability and cleanability. It can be used for 1-10 mm joints. Temperature resistance of the cured joint is -20 ... +60°C.
The product can also be used for fixing ceramic tiles.

Instructions for use

Before jointing, ensure that the tile adhesive is sufficiently cured and the joints are clean. The tiling adhesive may have risen to a maximum of 1/3 of the joint’s depth.
When jointing, the temperature of the substrate, material and tiles should be above +10 °C. The temperature strongly influences the consistence of the grout, working time and hardening. The warmer the mass, the easier it is to apply and the faster it is to cure. Underfloor heating must be disconnected approximately 1 day before tiling and can be reconnected approx. 1 week after tiling.
Kiilto Epoxy Tile grout is recommended to mix in full vessels. The correct mixing ratio is important for grout hardening and properties. The mixing is done by mechanical stirring at a slow rotation speed. Scrape the edges of the mixing bowl. After mixing, the mass can be divided into pits, whereby the reaction heat does not shorten the working time. Do not add water or solvent to the mix.
The grout is applied with a stiff epoxy rubber squeegee obliquely across the joints by vigorously pressing the joints to the full. The extra grout is removed as much as possible, thus reducing the material residuals and need for washing.
Clean the surface of tiles first as soon as possible with a coarse sponge using rotating motion. In this case, the joints are compacted and the excess grout foames on the surface of the tile. The slurry is then carefully removed with a softer sponge, washing it regularly with fresh water. In the wash water, you can add Kiilto Epoxy Cleaner (10 ml / 1l water) to help the washing. Water must be replaced frequently enough. The excess water is dried on a sponge from the surface of the tiling. The sponge must be replaced if its pores are saturated with the grout material.
Cleaning should be done carefully because hardened Kiilto Epoxy Tile grout is difficult to clean. The residue can be cleaned in the next day with Kiilto Epoxy Cleaner. After treatment, the tiles should be rinsed thoroughly and dried.
When using Kiilto Epoxy Cleaner with washing water or for after-cleaning, it is important to rinse it off thoroughly with clean water, as the cleaner will turn yellow over time, staining the surfaces of the joints and tiles.
The cleanability is strongly dependent on the type of tiles (e.g. rough and porous tiles). If necessary, jointing and cleanability must be tested in advance. In large areas, jointing and cleaning must be done in parts.
The tools can be washed with water, as long as it is done immediately.

For the sealing of movement joints, junctures between materials behaving differently (for example, corners and inlets) as well as junctures between tiles and other surface materials, use elastic Kiilto Saniteettisilikoni or Kiilto Silicone.
Tiling will withstand a light stress the next day. The final properties will be achieved after 5 days (+ 23 ° C). Cool conditions slow down the curing.
When using the product for fixing tiles, the substrate must be firm, dry and clean. Put the mortar on the surface to be tiled (trowel 6x6x6 mm). The tiles are pressed tightly. The excess mortar residues are freshly removed with water.

Additional information

Although the dirt repellency and cleanability of Kiilto Epoxy Tile grout is very good, heavily staining agents (such as tea or coffee) can leave traces of pale joint. Heat-treated wood or exotic wood species (including heat-treated radiata pine) may contain such chemicals that if released into indoor air they can cause change of colour in joints. If in doubt, test product's suitability before use. Chlorinated water can cause a small change of colour in white joints over time.
Due to the manufacturing technique of colour samples, there might be slight differences between the sample and the actual joint. To avoid colour difference, the grout bags should have the same lot number.
