Kiilto Link

Kiilto Link is an elastic membrane to be used under the floor tiles in dry areas. It develops a suppressant layer between the concrete substrate and the tile preventing tiles from cracking and coming loose due to shrinkage and drying of concrete.

Special features

  • patented product
  • easy to apply
  • elastic suppressant

Application

Kiilto Link is an elastic membrane to be used under the floor tiles in dry areas, such as kitchens, halls, commercial premises, offices etc. Resists moisture, but does not develop a waterproof film. Kiilto Link has good adhesion on primed concrete 90–95% RH and Kiilto Link surface system (Kiilto Keraprimer + Kiilto Link + Kiilto Lattialaattalaasti) has excellent transformation properties.

Substrate

Concrete substrate, but in areas of light traffic (e.g., apartments) cement based smoothing compound is possible.

Instructions for use

The substrate must be dry, absorbent, free from dust and even. All materials that might impair adhesion must be removed. Due to concrete shrinkage, one must consider the possible tensions when planning movement joints for the area to be tiled.

Sand the concrete surface and remove the dust carefully. Prime the surface with Kiilto Keraprimer diluted with water 1:1 and allow to dry for 1–2 hours. In areas with light traffic (e.g., apartments), the substrate can be smoothed with Kiilto floor levelling screeds.

Always stir Kiilto Link before use. Start the work from the area furthermost from the doorway and pour Kiilto Link membrane on a floor primed with Kiilto Keraprimer in 20 cm wide strips, next to wall. Apply in an even layer by spreading with a notched trowel in the strip's direction and add the membrane as the work advances. A notched trowel, purpose-built for applying Kiilto Link, leaves an appropriate layer, approx. 0.5 mm. Kiilto Link is self-levelling after application and leaves pores and pinholes on the surface allowing it to breath. You can also apply Kiilto Link with a paint roller. In this case, check the coverage of the membrane (1 kg/m2) and layer thickness after application and add more layers, if needed. With this method there will be fewer pores and pinholes and breathability of the product will suffer.

Spread Kiilto Link on the whole area and let dry. After drying for approx. 6–12 hours depending on the prevailing conditions, you can start laying the tiles. Tile with suitable Kiilto cementitious adhesive. Use Kiilto grout for joints. All elastic movement joints in the substructure and other places defined in the building documents should be made with Masa Bonding sealant or Kiilto Sanitary silicone. Incorporate more movement joints if necessary, depending on the humidity of the concrete and the size and the shape of the tiled area.
