Materials

Application

Very fast-setting and non-sagging cementitious adhesive for laying ceramic tiles, clinker and stone on vinyl, paint, tile, clinker, construction boards and common aggregate surfaces as well as on surfaces treated with Kiilto waterproofing membrane or Kiilto Kosteussulku moisture barrier. Suitable for interior and exterior use. Not suitable for areas permanently under water (e.g., swimming pools).

The surfaces to be tiled must be clean and free from dust. Remove water-soluble smoothing and levelling compounds. Dry and absorbent surfaces must be moistened or primed with thinned Kiilto Start Primer. Board substrates are primed with undiluted Start Primer. Turn off floor heating approx. 24 hours prior to tiling. When tiling on vinyl, paint, tile and clinker substrates (only interior applications):

- ensure that the surface to be tiled adheres properly to its own substrate
- remove wax, grease and dirt from the surface with alkaline cleaner and rinse well.

After the surface has dried, sand it, if necessary, and then remove the sanding dust.

Instructions for use

Strew powder slowly while stirring in cool, clean water until a smooth mass is formed. Spread the mix onto the surface to be tiled and comb open using a notched trowel an area that can be tiled within 10–15 minutes. Press the tiles firmly onto the surface and tap into position immediately. Adjustment time is approx. 10 minutes. It is recommended to randomly lift tiles during the application to ensure sufficient coverage of tile backs (wall tiles 70–75% and floor tiles 80–90%). When tiling outdoor areas, the coverage of tile backs must be 100 %. To make sure you get adequate coverage under the tiles, the trowel should be chosen according to the tile size and the tiling surface.

Remove fresh stains immediately with water and a damp sponge. Dried mortar can only be removed by mechanical means. Curing time 2–4 hours depending on conditions.

Jointing can be carried out with Kiilto Saumalaasti 2–4 hours after laying the tiles; on non-absorbent surfaces no sooner than after approx. 4 hours. Edges of panel and board walls, joints between wall and floor tiling and other movement joints should be jointed with elastic putty. By adding Kiilto Fixbinder as per instructions, Kerapid's deformation properties can be improved (CE-label C2ES2).

Suitable for correcting minor irregularities on the substrate prior to tiling. For corrections over 15 millimetres we recommend Kiilto wall plasters and floor levelling compounds.
