Kiilto Block
Barrier

An odour and solvent-free, tight barrier for encapsulating hazardous compounds released from building materials into the indoor air. The Kiilto Block Barrier’s mesh structure makes it tough and elastic, and means that it can be used on different types of substrates.

Special features

  • elastic, dense and tough
  • no odour or solvents
  • for blocking VOC and PAH compounds and ammonia
  • excellent spreading and adhesion on different types of substrates
  • option to use as it is and leave uncoated/untreated in areas that are protected from sunlight

Instructions for use

Suitable substrates: Smooth and clean concrete or another similar solid levelling screed substrate, such as Kiilto Fiberflex DF

For substrates that will be coated with a flooring or tiles:
Remove any loose particles carefully. If the substrate moisture content is < 90 RH%, apply a thin layer of Kiilto Block, with a consumption of approximately 300 g/m². For substrates with a higher moisture content, apply a layer of Kiilto Hydrablock, with a consumption of 300 g/m². Substrates that will be left uncoated after Kiilto Block treatment: Carefully remove any loose particles. If the substrate moisture content is < 90 RH%, apply a thin layer of Kiilto Hydrablock, with a consumption of approximately 300 g/m². For substrates with a higher moisture content, apply two layers of Kiilto Hydrablock, with a consumption of 600 g/m² . The relative humidity of the area must not exceed 70% RH, and the temperature must be between +15 °C and +30 °C. Stir Kiilto Block well before use. Add Kiilto Block Hardener using the correct mixing ratio. Empty 3 kg of Kiilto Block Hardener into the Kiilto Block Barrier and mix. Mix well by keeping the drill mixer below the surface at all times to avoid air bubbles. Pour the mix into another container. Mix again until it is smooth with no lumps or unmixed components. Pour the mix onto the floor and even out with a steel or notched trowel for a layer that is 1 mm thick. Roll the entire area with a short-haired paint or spike roller to remove air bubbles. Let dry for 12–72 h. Apply the second layer in the same manner as the first. Total consumption: approximately 2.8 kg/m². NOTE! If Kiilto Block is used already as a primer, the total consumption of Kiilto Block on top of the primer layer is 2.5 kg/m². Coving: Add 1.5–2.5 % Sylothix 51 thickening fiber into Kiilto Block barrier when making coves. Ensure that the barrier does not come into contact with water in the first 24 hours. The temperature and humidity of materials and of the air affect the hardening process. Clean tools with acetone or Kestopur Cleaner 303. NOTE. If exposed to UV radiation, uncoated Kiilto Block Barrier will turn yellow.
