Product markings and classifications

Our goal is to keep increasing the proportion of products with environmental and safety classification, which is currently 78% of our total product sales. Products that are safe to the user and the environment can be identified based on the following markings, for example:

M1

The M1 rating indicates that building materials meet the most stringent emissions classifications for indoor air quality. Receiving an M1 rating is always the goal in the development of Kiilto building supplies. Over 70% of the Kiilto building supplies sold already have an M1 rating and an increasing number of industrial products are being granted the rating.

CE

Throughout the EU, waterproofing products are given a CE marking, when they have been tested and passed as a system in the European Technical Approval (ETA) system. Kiilto’s Kerafiber waterproofing system was the first of its kind to receive a CE marking. In 2004, flexible cementitious adhesives were the first Kiilto products to receive a CE marking. Nearly all Kiilto plasters and compounds bear the CE marking.

VTT

VTT certification ensures that a product or product system meets the requirements of Finnish building regulations and standards when used in accordance with the certificate instructions.

CG2

The properties of grouts are specified in the EN 13888 standard. Grouts are divided into two groups according to the standard: CG (cementitious grouts) and RG (resin grouts). In addition, CG has been divided into two classes, 1 and 2, of which CG2 is stricter. In addition to this, the CG2 marking is supplemented with letters indicating the ways in which the product meets the requirements: W = better water-repelling properties, A = better resistance to wear. Kiilto's Saumalaasti and Klinkkerisaumalaasti products carry the marking GC2 W A.

WHEEL MARK

Adhesives bearing the “Wheel Mark” meet the fire safety requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). IMO recommendations are included in the EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED). The Wheel Mark on marine equipment and materials indicates compliance with the MED.

NSF

The NSF Mark may be granted to a product whose raw material composition is suitable for use in contact with foodstuffs by NSF International. Kiilto’s certified products are listed in the NSF White Book.

APPROVAL FOR GLUES IN FOOD PACKAGING

The adhesives that bear this mark meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, GMP regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practices, Food Act 23/2006 and the plastic regulation (EU) 10/2011.

RMRS

Adhesives bearing the “Russian Maritime Register of Shipping” mark meet the fire safety requirements of the Russian maritime organisation.

LEED

(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an American certification programme for green properties that aims to reduce the environmental impact of construction and building use. All solvent-free products of the Kiilto construction product department meet the requirements of the LEED certificate.

KEY FLAG

The “Key Flag” mark of origin indicates that a product is made or service is provided in Finland. Kiilto applied for and received the mark for its domestic production in June 2011 as an indication of Finnish work and expertise. Kiilto Oy’s adhesives, waterproofing products, plasters, levelling compounds and lacquers are manufactured in the company's own production facilities in Lempäälä.
